Mental Health Matters

Many of you have probably been following Simone Biles and her journey to a sound mind. For those of you who don’t know who she is, she’s an olympic gymnast who consistently baffles the world with her unparalleled talent. We often forget that members of society who are so greatly gifted are also human and function the way we do. Meaning that their mental health matters and needs love, too.

You can’t possibly give your best if you are not your best. It’s as simple as that. It’s not a form of weakness to take a step back and reevaluate your mental space. In fact, it’s deemed powerful to be able to acknowledge that you need a little help and do something to fix it. What seems obvious, but many people forget, is that the issue never goes away if it's ignored. Instead, it becomes so intensely suppressed that it comes out in ways you won’t be proud of.

Caring for your mind is just as important as caring for your body. Not only will you live longer, you will live better. There are many ways to ease your mind including meditation, therapy, writing in your journal, exercising, or just simply talking it out with a friend. Don't let your mental struggles define what's in store for your future.

Let’s normalize focusing on our mental growth as we do our physical development.
